TREND MICRO CAPTURE THE FLAG (CTF) 2021 – RAIMUND GENES CUP
OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.
CONTEST DESCRIPTION: The Trend Micro Capture the Flag (CTF) 2021 – Raimund Genes Cup (the “Contest”) is a global cybersecurity competition that will consist of two events: a global online qualification stage and a finals stage. The online qualifier is in a “Jeopardy” style format - players solve challenges in various cybersecurity categories. The top 10 teams from the online qualifier and select regional event winners will advance to compete in the final, which is a different take on the standard “Jeopardy” style format with a new dynamic value scoring element.
SPONSOR: Trend Micro Incorporated and its subsidiaries (“Sponsor”).
ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to citizens or permanent residents of the fifty (50) United States, District of Columbia, and worldwide, except for Quebec, Crimea region of Ukraine, Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Sudan. Entrants must be 18 years of age at the time of entry. Sponsor and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors and employees, and their respective immediate family members and/or those residing in the same household of each are ineligible to enter the Contest or win a prize. This Contest is void where prohibited by law.
HOW TO ENTER: Eligible participants may enter the Contest by registering at www.trendmicro.com/ctf (the “Website”) and completing the registration form. The Contest is a team-based competition and each team is required to have a team leader. There is no limit on the number of members per team for the online qualifier. Each participant may only enter the Contest once. The top ten (10) teams from the online qualifier will qualify for the final, with a maximum of four (4) members (team leader plus an additional three (3) participants) per team allowed to represent the team in the final.
Limit one (1) entry per team for the Contest. All requested information on the Contest page must be completed to enter and to be eligible to win. Sponsor shall have no liability for any entry that is lost, intercepted or not received by the Sponsor.
QUALIFICATION STAGE: The qualification stage (“Online Qualifier”) begins at 13:00 (JST) on September 18, 2021 and ends at 13:00 (JST) on September 19, 2021. ENTRANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING THE CORRESPONDING TIME ZONE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE JURISDICTIONS.
Once the Online Qualifier begins, a challenge for each category will be available. Scores will be calculated for each team. The first team to solve a challenge will be awarded bonus points (1% of the challenge point value). As soon as one team solves a specific challenge, the next challenge in the same category will be available to all teams. Sponsor will communicate updates during the Online Qualifier via Twitter (@TrendMicroCTF). Multiple submissions of wrong answers within a short period of time will trigger a lockout. If you continue submitting wrong answers during the lockout period, your team account will be locked for an additional amount of time.
FINAL STAGE: The top ten (10) teams with the highest scores from the Online Qualifier and the select winners of the regional CTF qualifiers will be eligible for participating in the Trend Micro CTF 2021 - Raimund Genes Cup Virtual Final (“Finals”) to be held the weekend of December 18, 2021. Four (4) team members, including one (1) team leader per team, can participate in the Finals – all four (4) team members must have participated in the Online Qualifier. No team may change its name and team leaders may not be changed unless specifically given permission from Trend Micro due to exceptional circumstances.
The following activities are strictly prohibited at any time during the Contest:
  • Any activities or actions that would interfere, obstruct, or disturb other teams, participants, and event organizers;
  • Spying on other teams, participants, and event organizers;
  • Providing hints, clues, or answers to participants other than your own team members;
  • Seeking or receiving hints, clues, or answers from participants other than your own team members – a hint or a clue provided by event organizers to all participants would be acceptable;
  • Participating in multiple teams; and
  • Any attacks on the network and/or systems.
If Sponsor finds that a team has engaged in any prohibited activity, Sponsor as the right to deduct points or disqualify a team.
FINAL STAGE PRIZE: First place winner will receive 1,000,000 (JPY) and 15,000 ZDI Reward Points per member of the winning team. In addition, four (4) members of the winning team will receive a direct invitation to participate in person for the Trend Micro CTF 2021 - Raimund Genes Cup Finals. Second place winner will receive 300,000 (JPY). Third place winner will receive 200,000 (JPY). Prizes may be subject to terms, restrictions and conditions imposed by Sponsor. Further, all prize winners will need to provide all requested personal information to prove residence eligibility and that they are not restricted by applicable export controls and sanctions programs.
GENERAL PRIZE CONDITIONS: The prize winners shall be solely responsible for any required or applicable federal, state, provincial and/or local taxes and the reporting consequences thereof, and for any other fees or costs associated with the applicable prize. Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries and related companies, or their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents will not be liable for unsuccessful efforts to notify a winner. No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by winner permitted except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. If the prize becomes unavailable, Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. If a potential winner declines the prize, does not respond to the prize notification, fails to claim the prize, is unavailable for prize fulfillment, fails to abide by the Official Rules, or is ineligible, Sponsor may select the next highest scoring team as the winner.
RELEASE: By receipt of the prize, winner agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor, and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, and each of their respective parent companies and each such company’s officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. the prize money will be awarded solely to the person whose email is listed on the team registration. It is the sole responsibility of the registrant to distribute any potential winnings. Sponsor takes no liability for the distribution of payment to other group members.
PRIVACY: Personal data collected from each participant in connection with Contest registration will be used in accordance with Sponsor’s Global Privacy Notice found at www.trendmicro.com/privacy. Any communication or information transmitted to Sponsor and/or the Website by electronic mail or otherwise is and will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.
PUBLICITY: Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes winner’s consent to Sponsor’s and its agents’ use of winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown and state or province for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of the Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: The Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the processing of entries; (5) late, lost, undeliverable, or intercepted electronic mail; or (6) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. If for any reason an entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Contest, if it is possible.
GOVERNING LAW/JURISDICTION: ALL ISSUES AND QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE CONSTRUCTION, VALIDITY, INTERPRETATION AND ENFORCEABILITY OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES OR THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF ENTRANTS OR SPONSOR IN CONNECTION WITH THE CONTEST SHALL BE GOVERNED BY AND CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WITHOUT GIVING EFFECT TO ANY CHOICE OF LAW OR CONFLICT OF LAW RULES OR PROVISIONS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE APPLICATION OF ANY OTHER STATE’S LAWS.
WINNERS LIST: The Contest winner’s list will be posted on www.trendmicro.com/ctf after December 20, 2021.
